Frequently Asked Questions:

What materials are Treenets made from?

Treenets are woven by hand with rope and cord. We are continuously improving our methods and expanding our use of cutting edge materials and design engineering.  We primarily work with industrially rated ropes for our perimeters and foundation ropes.  These have an average material breaking strength above 6,000lbs.  The surface and textile aspect of nets are woven from parachute cord, a round braided cord with a rating of 550lbs.  When thousands of feet of this cord is tied together to create a Treenet the resulting fabric is a very dynamic and durable surface.  The rule of thumb is that the tree will break before the net does. Our ladders and other style embellishments are built with ethically sourced timbers.

How long will my Treenet be safe to enjoy?

The primary environmental factors which weather and eventually degrade a Treenet are exposure to Ultraviolet Sunlight and the growth rate of trees where a net has been created. UV light breaks down rope over time and as trees grow, the net may become too restrictive.  Our experience has shown that a well made net in a tree with a moderate canopy will remain in excellent serviceable condition for 7 to 10+ years.  Furniture pieces which are often placed in full sun typically want to receive new fiber weaving after 5 to 8 years.

How much is a Treenet worth?

We create one of a kind works of art which are functional and designed for safe enjoyment by people of all ages and ability. Since each location is so unique, scale, scope and level of details are variable. The average price for a Treenet is approximately $75 per square foot. Elevation, access and embellishments drive much of the material and time expense for a Treenet. Visit our contact page to send us a few photos of your tree or trees. If you hire us for a site visit consultation and proposal we will provide three tiers of project scope and pricing options. Our consultation fee is prorated from the total cost of your net once completed.  We are happy to offer a free thirty minute telephone review and consultation using photos you send us of your potential Treenet location. Visit our contact page to send us images and we can collaborate on potential Treenet options for you.

Where is the best place for a net where I live?

Selecting a perfect location for a Treenet is an art in itself.  Your lifestyle and intention are important considerations. Health and location of trees available for a Treenet will also shape what is possible.  A grove of trees offers Treenet options which are different from those found in large individual trees.  Enjoy a walk around your home and let your imagination be inspired by how you desire to be up among the branches.  Is there a special place you like to go and sit quietly? Do your children love to play around or in a certain special tree?  Treenets can be tailored to host many types of activities.  Helping you discover what kind of Treenet design will most support your goals for play and relaxation is the focus of our consultation process.  Visit our contact page and we can work together to bring you into the trees.

Why is a Treenet different than a Treehouse?

“A Treehouse is like being on a tree while a Treenet is like being in a tree.”

Treehouses and Treenets are both descended from the love of nature and the love of being around trees.  Being off the ground and feeling connected to wind and the lofty beauty of trees is a common root to both art forms.  Treenets stand out among tree crafts because they are a textile. Being woven by hand means that a Treenet is always completely unique.  No two locations are the same which makes every net we weave one of a kind.  The hand woven nature of the art and the resilience of the materials we deploy in our work create a fabric surface which is under tension. This means that the net itself has a bounce and force distribution which is tuned to the specific location.  Our weaving methodology creates a surface which is safe and durable while reflecting organic patterns. Unlike a Treehouse a Treenet will contain no straight lines.  Our natural, principals based weave creates a surface which appears very natural. The Be In Treenets style blends with the patterns and architecture of the tree to appear nearly invisible which supports the feeling of floating.  Feeling yourself directly held and connected to trees in a taut responsive Treenet environment is far away from the feeling of standing on a deck or wooden structure.
